Nigerian beef patties recipe

Directions:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.

  • Add the chilled butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  • Gradually add the cold water and mix until the dough comes together.

  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for a few minutes until smooth.

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.

  • In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté for 2-3 minutes or until fragrant.

  • Add the ground beef and cook for 5-7 minutes or until browned.

  • Add the diced potato, diced carrot, frozen peas, curry powder, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine and cook for 5-7 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.

  • Remove the skillet from the heat and let the beef mixture cool for a few minutes.

  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness.

  • Use a round cookie cutter or a glass to cut out circles of dough.

  • Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each dough circle.

  • Fold the dough over the filling and use a fork to crimp the edges together.

  • Brush the beaten egg over the top of each beef patty.

  • Bake the beef patties for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Serve the Nigerian beef patties warm or at room temperature.
