Banana Pudding Recipe

banana pudding

As you can tell by the name, the main ingredient for this sweet dessert is bananas, so this one is for you if you enjoy banana-flavored desserts. The recipe for banana pudding has certainly evolved over the years. In the 1920s, people started making banana pudding that didn't require baking, and vanilla wafers became a popular substitute for sponge cake. While it may look complicated, it truly isn't. Feel free to try our recipe and make it your own. You can add or remove ingredients to your liking.

Ingredients

  • A 9″/5 quart glass bowl

  • 4 firm ripe bananas (1 for topping the pudding)

  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • 2 1/2 cups of cold milk

  • 1 box of instant vanilla pudding (5.1 ounces)

  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 container of whipped topping (8 ounces)

  • 1 box of vanilla wafer cookies

  • 1 sprig of mint

Instructions

  • Peel and slice the bananas and toss them in a bowl with the lemon juice to keep them from browning quickly. Set aside.

  • Combine the cold milk, vanilla extract, and instant vanilla pudding mix and whisk for two minutes. Add the sweetened condensed milk and mix until thoroughly blended. Set aside.

  • Take half of the whipped topping with a spatula and put it into the pudding mixture.

  • In the glass bowl, cover the bottom with two layers of vanilla wafers, add a layer of bananas over the wafers, add a layer of the pudding mix, and then add a layer of the whipped topping.

  • Repeat all steps ending with whipped cream on top. We like to add crushed vanilla wafers, mint leaves and sliced bananas as garnish.

  • Cover with plastic wrap and chill the pudding for an hour before serving.
